​Future Beekeepers

 

Future Beekeepers seeks to share information about the miraculous world of the honey bee through informal, hands-on presentations adapted to meet a variety of audiences and interests. Discovering more about the honey bee helps to illuminate the magic in the world around us and perhaps inspires us to preserve and protect it.

 

I started keeping honey bees almost 15 years ago and learned that the honey bee is a tiny but strategic player in our world. So important are these little creatures that many of the fruits and vegetables we take for granted would become scarce and very expensive, if not disappear altogether, were we to lose them.

 

There are countless influences that impact their world, from pesticides to habitat reduction to new diseases from far corners of the world. The more I learn, the more I realize that it is we, average citizens, who will author and support the changes needed to preserve the honey bee and the other pollinators for whom honey bees have become an ambassador.
